Canada's available aircraft to combat wildfires

Canada’s existing water bombers, helicopters and other firefighting aircraft are owned by the provinces or hired from private contractors. Many of them are nearing obsolescence, and aircrews and maintenance engineers are scarce. For years there have been calls on the federal government to build a federal fleet, but order backlogs for new aircraft are lengthy and deliveries can take years.
