Housing potential of underused government-owned lands

A new UBC report, released exclusively to The Globe and Mail, shows that in cities representing 30 per cent of the country’s population, there is enough underdeveloped or vacant public land close to amenities, such as schools, grocery stores and day cares, to build affordable housing for one million Canadians.

*These numbers include public land owned by municipal, provincial and federal governments, except for Edmonton and Calgary, which don’t include provincial land. UBC researchers were not able to obtain provincial property data from the Alberta government.
