The Strait of Hormuz

Located between Oman and Iran, the strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is one of the world's most important oil chokepoints, through which 20 per cent of the world's petroleum passes. If the strait is blocked, other pipelines could be used to reroute some of the volume away from exposed zones and into "friendlier" territories.
