Main points of Gaza ceasefire agreement

Following negotiations brokered by Egyptian and Qatari mediators, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel began on Jan. 19, 2025, pausing the war in Gaza after more than 15 months

FIRST PHASE (six weeks)
• Hamas to release 33 Israeli hostages, including female civilians and soldiers, children and civilians over 50
• Israel to release 30 Palestinian prisoners for each civilian hostage and 50 for each female soldier
• Halt to fighting, Israeli forces to move out of populated areas to 1km-wide buffer zone inside Gaza
• Israeli forces to move out of Netzarim Corridor but retain control of Philadelphi Corridor throughout first phase
• Displaced Palestinians to begin to return to their homes, more aid to enter Gaza
SECOND PHASE (six weeks)
• Declaration of “sustainable calm”
• Hamas to free remaining male hostages (soldiers and civilians) in exchange for a yet-to-be-negotiated number of Palestinian prisoners and full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza
THIRD PHASE
• Bodies of deceased Israeli hostages to be exchanged for bodies of deceased Palestinian fighters
• Implementation of reconstruction plan in Gaza
• Reopening of border crossings for movement in and out of Gaza
