Yellow perch sampled at multiple locations in Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair (2015 to 2018) showed high concentrations of microcystins in their livers. The toxins are a byproduct of harmful algal blooms, which are projected to become more intense. Other fish species also accumulate the toxins.
