Can you afford to rent a one-bedroom on $100,000 a year?

In Greater Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area a tenant with an income of $100,000 a year would have to spend more than 40 per cent of their take-home pay to cover rent at average market rates plus heating and electricity costs.

Methodology: Take-home pay reflects net income after taxes and deductions for salaried employees during months in which they pay Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance contributions. Rents are based on average advertised rates for available units as of September 2023.
