During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario's Wastewater Surveillance Initiative drew on information from 107 sampling sites across the province's 34 health units and covered 72 percent of the population. By the time the province announced it was shutting down the program at the end of July 2024 participants were testing for a range of viruses at more than 50 sites.
