Potential airport expansion

The Toronto Port Authority says it is contemplating a 600-metre extension of the runway at Billy Bishop Airport. That’s on top of the two 150-metre safety zones already in the works and due for completion next year. President and CEO Roelof-Jan (R.J.) Steenstra told The Globe on Monday that he expects most of the new runway to come from a westward extension, minimizing impacts on the inner harbour to the east.
